The Golden Compass (Review)

I’ll talk about the film “The Golden Compass” directed by Chris Weitz which is an adapted script from the book with the same name, this fairy tale takes place in a alternating universe where the magic, demons and witches really exist. The film’s main characters are interpreted by consecrated actors like Nicole Kidman (“The Others”, “Eyes Wide Shut”), Daniel Craig ( a.k.a James Bond) and Ian McKellen (“The Da Vinci Code”, “The Lord Of The Rings”); in addition to this there’s a very young cast.

This story rotates around the “dust” which seems to be something magic and at the same time something forbidden, not less important is the golden compass which is an strange gadget to know the truth behind the people and only one person can read it, this person is Lyra a little girl with a unknown past; she realizes that a conspiracy against children and their demons has been planed and somehow the “dust” is involved, in order to stop this plans she starts a journey where she finds some strange and magic friends who will help her across weird lands and seas.

This film has a great soundtrack with some african rhythms and classical music, another excellent detail is the photography which helps to create the illusion and atmosphere of a fantastic wolrd with strange places, transportation and wardrobe.

“The Golden Compass” is an interesting film, good for a weekend with children who will find some fun and a fantastic story. If you are looking for a serious film, this won’t be an option.

In a world where every movie trailer starts with "In a world....". Jajaja.
